Even today — and even within the artistic community itself — many still see the artist as a miserable figure who shouldn’t make money, who must live off scraps. There’s this outdated idea that the artist must create "art for art’s sake," purely out of passion, without expecting any financial return.
Well, yes — creating out of passion is wonderful. In my view, art driven by love is something truly precious. But we also need to respect those artists who want to work with art and, yes, make money from it. That’s right: money! Cash in hand! Or even better — On paypal! 😄
Unfortunately, it's still seen as wrong for an artist to want to profit from their creations. And I ask: what’s the crime in that? Why should it be shameful to want to live off your talent? A talent that was developed over time through studies, courses, practice, techniques, materials, and countless hours of learning and dedication.
The artist/worker, as I like to say, isn’t doing any harm to anyone. Many people actually depend on art to live. And yes, it is a legitimate form of work. Of course, creating just for the sake of it is valid too. But if an artist wants to turn their art into a profession, the least they deserve is respect.
In fact, one of the greatest forms of appreciation you can offer an artist is this: even if you don’t buy anything from them, recognize that what they do is work. That alone is already a huge step forward.
Because, if we really think about it...Art is absolutely everywhere.
And yes, art is a great way to earn a living! It’s not easy — but it’s not impossible.
